Hace un año, tras su llegada a la Escuela Libre de Música en Hato Rey, Emanuel Fernández descubrió “una educación brutal” que hoy, como cientos de estudiantes del plantel, tiene miedo de perder ante los intensos rumores de un posible cierre o reubicación.
Estudiantes, padres y facultad llevaron a cabo una sonora protesta ayer para exigir un compromiso escrito del secretario de Educación, Rafael Aragunde, que asegure la permanencia de la escuela, así como una reunión para que defina su compromiso con ellos y responda a quejas por problemas con la planta física.
La confusión de los manifestantes se produjo tras las alegadas declaraciones públicas de Aragunde en torno a la reubicación de la escuela en diciembre. Días más tarde el Secretario negó que la escuela fuera a ser cerrada y dijo que si fuera necesario transferir sus operaciones a otro lugar, la comunidad escolar sería la primera en enterarse.
Pero ayer, en medio de la confusión, Aragunde rechazó de plano ambas alternativas.
“Yo nunca he hablado de cerrar esa escuela ni cosa parecida”, apuntó el titular, quien próximamente citará a padres, maestros y estudiantes para discutir los problemas de la escuela.
A los jóvenes les preocupan los rumores que vienen y van durante los últimos años respecto a la alegada intención de separar el ofrecimiento académico del musical o de una reubicación debido a que “intereses económicos” andan tras la sede ubicada en la céntrica zona de Hato Rey.
“Nos tenemos que hacer escuchar porque somos estudiantes excelentes y se supone que el gobierno nos ayude para seguir desarrollándonos”, afirmó Emanuel, estudiante de guitarra, mientras marchaba junto a otros estudiantes.
Aragunde también negó este rumor.
Illeana Marrero Solís, primer violín de la Orquesta Sinfónica Escolar, se gradúa el próximo semestre pero aún así se unió a la protesta frente al plantel.
“A mí me gusta esta escuela y quisiera que otros tuvieran la oportunidad de estudiar aquí”, señaló.
La manifestación, que contó hasta con la intervención de una orquesta de salsa formada por estudiantes, también tuvo el propósito de reclamar atención a los problemas en la planta física y la falta de estacionamiento.
Sybaris Morales, maestra de historia, ex alumna y miembro del Comité Pro Defensa de la Escuela Libre de Música, denunció que el año pasado el plantel fue incluido en una asignación de fondos de $51.7 millones para mejoras estructurales, incluido un estacionamiento multipisos. Sin embargo aún no se han realizado trabajos de envergadura.
A pesar de las limitaciones, la escuela fundada hace 59 años es reconocida por la excelencia de la educación tanto musical como académica. El año pasado, tres de las puntuaciones más altas del College Board correspondieron a estudiantes del plantel, entre cuyos egresados se encuentra el salsero Gilberto Santa Rosa y la actriz Sully Díaz.

Se cultiva y consume más la marihuana 'jíbara'

PONCE, (AP).- La mayoría de la marihuana que se consume en los cinco pueblos que conforman el área policíaca de Guayama es cultivada en Puerto Rico, contrario a la creencia de que viene de otros países, reveló hoy el jefe policial de la zona, Alejandro Figueroa.
"La mayor cantidad de la droga que estamos ocupando es la marihuana 'jíbara'. La topografía territorial se presta para eso, el cultivo", advirtió.
El funcionario dijo que se está cultivando marihuana en las áreas rurales de los pueblos cercanos a Guayama, así como en los pueblos del centro del país, que están bajo la jurisdicción de la Comandancia de Aibonito.
Figueroa indicó que tiene en curso varias investigaciones para dar con los cultivos y destruirlos.
"Como hay tantos montes, montañas, el área se presta para sembrar esa clase de droga. Tenemos bastante aceleradas investigaciones y esperamos que pronto tengamos resultados", señaló en entrevista radial (WPUC).
El comandante precisó que la droga de mayor uso en esa área policial es la marihuana, seguida por la cocaína, la heroína y las llamadas "drogas de diseño".
Expuso además que desde el 16 de agosto pasado cuando se hizo cargo de la jefatura del Area de Guayama se han diligenciado 1,156 arrestos en su mayoría por sustancias controladas y armas.
Figueroa indicó que existían unos 85 puntos de venta de drogas entre los pueblos de Guayama, Cayey, Salinas, Arroyo y Patillas, pero "ahora podemos hablar de 40" debido a que, en conjunto con la División de Drogas, eliminaron 45, reclamó.

Fucking hell! High Tension is one of the best horror/slasher movies I've seen of late. Atmospheric, gruesome and with a nice plot twist. Enough gore to offend sensibilities and like every good film, a good proper mindfuck.
Vero wants to watch "Irreversible". It's a very unnerving and powerful film. It is so intense that it ranks with "Requiem for A Dream" and "Eraserhead" as some of the greatest mindfucks ever put on film.
Also watched Elizabeth (Cate Blanchett and Fanny Ardant *drools*) and Unleashed aka Danny The Dog. Brilliant!

Como pasa el tiempo
Como pasa el tiempo. Hace un an~o estaba terminando de mandar pa'l carajo a una chica que, estaba bien buena no lo niego y el sexo era tremendo, pero era tan fucking bipolar y egoista que en realidad no valia la pena. Para entablar cualquier tipo de relacion se necesitan dos personas, asi que le di goodbye and good fucking riddance!
Un an~o despues y llevo 9 meses con una mujer que amo intensamente y viceversa. Desprendida, inteligente, supercool, dulce, atenta y tremendo sentido del humor entre otras cosas. Ella simplemente *es* y me siento super feliz de estar a su lado. Prueba fehaciente de que mas abajo vive gente.
Anoche comi helado con Vero un momentito pero fue gracioso chismear y alegrarle el dia. Bueno amiguitos, me voy a trabjar.

Orocovis - Mirada risueña, hablar elocuente, sonrisa de ángel.
Así es como se proyecta Carlos. Demasiado perfecto como para adivinar la angustia que esconde.
A sus escasos 16 años, ha intentado suicidarse tres veces.
“En casa me siento solo, no tengo afecto ni cariño. No me atrevo a pedir la bendición porque otras veces me han rechazado”, confiesa con candidez el joven estudiante de undécimo grado en la escuela José Rojas Cortés, la única superior en Orocovis.
Carlos, nombre ficticio para proteger la verdadera identidad de este adolescente, es uno de los actores de un estremecedor drama de la vida real que, calladamente, está desarrollándose en las entrañas de esta población llamada por muchos “El Corazón de Puerto Rico”: por razones desconocidas, al menos 19 adolescentes entre los 16 y 17 años han intentado quitarse la vida o han manifestado ideas suicidas durante el último año.
Diecinueve es el número de casos que han sido confirmados por las autoridades escolares y de salud, pero se cree que pueden ser más. Todos los que han manifestado este peligroso patrón de conducta estudian en la escuela José Rojas Cortés, que tiene unos 800 estudiantes. Cada uno vive una historia de dolor que le quitado la esperanza y le lleva a pensar que la única salida es atentar contra su vida, justo en la época de la vida en que los adolescentes del mundo labran los sueños de su futuro.
Algunos han intentado suicidarse más de una vez. Casi todos utilizaron pastillas. Otros se abrieron las muñecas con navajas. Varios han estado recluidos en centros hospitalarios. La gran mayoría dijo que su conducta responde a problemas familiares, como en el caso de Carlos.
Pero también hay quienes lidian con problemas de identidad sexual, están inconformes con su apariencia física o batallan condiciones mentales como la depresión, sin recibir la ayuda adecuada.
Hay más casos de féminas que de varones.
Las razones por las que ocurre específicamente en Orocovis no se han precisado, pero el aislamiento de este pueblo lejos de todo, más los altos niveles de pobreza, desempleo y marginación pueden ser parte del problema, según los expertos.
Al percatarse de esta tendencia hace varias semanas, miembros de la facultad de la escuela superior alertaron a la Administración de Servicios de Salud Mental y Contra la Adicción (ASSMCA) y, desde entonces, la dependencia está orientando a maestros, trabajadores sociales, padres y estudiantes, con relación a cómo manejar este fenómeno.
El hallazgo en Orocovis, aunque “alarmante y de emergencia”, no constituye una experiencia nueva para ASSMCA ya que en el pasado han lidiado con situaciones similares en otros pueblos, como Canóvanas.
El doctor Pedro Juan Morales, administrador auxiliar de tratamiento para niños y adolescentes de ASSMCA, destacó que cada caso tiene que ser visto de forma individual, pues hay diferentes factores que pueden causar una situación como la que ocurre hoy en día en Orocovis.
En Puerto Rico no hay estadísticas sobre intentos de suicidio, pero Morales destacó que los centros de ASSMCA ubicados en Mayagüez y Bayamón, a donde acuden pacientes de casi todo el País, recibieron 2,162 visitas durante el pasado año fiscal. De éstas, 475 fueron casos de intento de suicidio. La estadística por división de edad, sexo y población no ha sido recopilada aún.
Aunque la posibilidad de pensar alguna vez en quitarse la vida está latente en todo ser humano a cualquier edad, según el doctor Morales, la adolescencia suele ser un periodo especialmente vulnerable.
Se entiende que para entonces ha culminado el proceso de desarrollo de pensamiento y se tiene la capacidad de evaluarse a uno mismo. Es entonces cuando comienzan las preguntas: quién soy, cuánto me estoy ajustando a mis metas o a las que trazaron para mí, el ideal de belleza, el cuerpo perfecto, etcétera.
A estas se añade el sentir respecto al entorno familiar y tantas otras. Si el joven no tiene las herramientas y el apoyo para enfrentar conflictos internos o experiencias negativas corre el riesgo de entrar en crisis.
Morales indicó que hay cuatro llamados o expresiones principales que llevan a una persona a tener ideas suicidas e intentar quitarse la vida. Estas son: un reclamo poderoso de atención y de ser escuchado, una respuesta de venganza hacia una persona que le ha hecho daño, una expresión de culpa por entender que se ha fallado o se ha violado una regla, por un sentimiento de frustración personal abrumante o un sensación inmensa de vacío y pérdida de gusto por la vida.
En el caso de Carlos, las tres veces que tomó pastillas en exceso lo hizo bajo los efectos de una profunda tristeza por la falta de atención y cariño de su familia, especialmente de su madre.
El detonante en su caso fue una trágica experiencia en el núcleo de su hogar: su hermana menor fue violada por su tío. La familia “se separó más” y la atención de todo el mundo se volcó en la menor. En medio de la confusión que causó este incidente en Carlos, él decidió no tomar partido con nadie, lo que llevó al rechazo de algunos miembros de su familia y de su madre.
Después de su último intento de suicidio, hace menos de un mes - el pasado 29 de septiembre -, el adolescente fue hospitalizado en una institución de servicios de salud mental. Le recetaron Welbutrin, un antidepresivo. Él lo toma a diario, aunque está convencido de lo que realmente necesita para sanar es la atención de su familia.
No conoce cuáles son los efectos secundarios de la píldora, ni visita a un siquiatra o sicólogo hace más de seis meses. Esa última vez visitó a un siquiatra y no le gustó porque en lugar de aconsejarlo, como él hubiera querido, le recetó pastillas. Por eso quiere visitar a un sicólogo, aunque su mamá prefiere al siquiatra.
“Mami dice que tengo cita, pero nunca me lleva”, cuenta Carlos, cuya familia tampoco está recibiendo ningún apoyo para superar la crisis. Sobre su padre, que no vive con él, el joven sólo dice que “es muy seco”.
Una de las preocupaciones mayores del personal de trabajo social en la escuela es, precisamente, que en muchos casos son los padres de los jóvenes quienes están más necesitados de ayuda y no la reciben.
Una maestra del plantel que en su salón hogar tiene a varios de los estudiantes afectados dijo que uno de ellos es criado por su padre, que es esquizofrénico y no recibe atención médica. Otros dos jóvenes viven con sus madres y enfrentan problemáticas que “muy serias y complejas”, sobre las que no reveló detalles.
“No hay terapia familiar”, lamentó la educadora. “Tú puedes tratar de que el tiempo aquí sea lo más agradable posible, pero después se marchan a su casa a vivir lo mismo. Es muy difícil buscarle alternativas a estos jóvenes porque los servicios son muy pobres”, dijo, a punto del llanto, por la impotencia de no poder hacer más por sus estudiantes.
Un asunto que a juicio de médicos y personal de escuela entrevistado agrava la situación es que debido al aislamiento geográfico de Orocovis la atención médica y preventiva que reciben niños y adolescentes es muy pobre.
La privatizadora FHC, proveedora de servicios de salud mental bajo la reforma de salud en esta región, atiende a los pacientes de esta población con un siquiatra para adultos y un sicólogo.
“No tenemos personal capacitado en niños y adolescentes”, apuntó Arleen Colón, coordinadora del centro.
Mientras, las necesidades de los jóvenes orocoveños y sus familias continúan, no tan sólo en cuanto a atención médica se refiere.
“Las cosas no están fáciles (para los adolescentes). Saber la situación por la que están pasando sus compañeros le asombra y entristece. Ha sido testigo de que cuando alguno de sus amigos intentó suicidarse el trato en el hogar cambió “por dos ó tres semanas, pero después volvió a lo mismo”.
Para jóvenes como Carlos, el alivio vendrá sólo cuando se cumpla eso que él desea más que nada en el mundo: “Que cambie el trato de mi mamá y mi familia hacia mí”.

Orocovis - Mirada risueña, hablar elocuente, sonrisa de ángel.
Así es como se proyecta Carlos. Demasiado perfecto como para adivinar la angustia que esconde.
A sus escasos 16 años, ha intentado suicidarse tres veces.
“En casa me siento solo, no tengo afecto ni cariño. No me atrevo a pedir la bendición porque otras veces me han rechazado”, confiesa con candidez el joven estudiante de undécimo grado en la escuela José Rojas Cortés, la única superior en Orocovis.
Carlos, nombre ficticio para proteger la verdadera identidad de este adolescente, es uno de los actores de un estremecedor drama de la vida real que, calladamente, está desarrollándose en las entrañas de esta población llamada por muchos “El Corazón de Puerto Rico”: por razones desconocidas, al menos 19 adolescentes entre los 16 y 17 años han intentado quitarse la vida o han manifestado ideas suicidas durante el último año.
Diecinueve es el número de casos que han sido confirmados por las autoridades escolares y de salud, pero se cree que pueden ser más. Todos los que han manifestado este peligroso patrón de conducta estudian en la escuela José Rojas Cortés, que tiene unos 800 estudiantes. Cada uno vive una historia de dolor que le quitado la esperanza y le lleva a pensar que la única salida es atentar contra su vida, justo en la época de la vida en que los adolescentes del mundo labran los sueños de su futuro.
Algunos han intentado suicidarse más de una vez. Casi todos utilizaron pastillas. Otros se abrieron las muñecas con navajas. Varios han estado recluidos en centros hospitalarios. La gran mayoría dijo que su conducta responde a problemas familiares, como en el caso de Carlos.
Pero también hay quienes lidian con problemas de identidad sexual, están inconformes con su apariencia física o batallan condiciones mentales como la depresión, sin recibir la ayuda adecuada.
Hay más casos de féminas que de varones.
Las razones por las que ocurre específicamente en Orocovis no se han precisado, pero el aislamiento de este pueblo lejos de todo, más los altos niveles de pobreza, desempleo y marginación pueden ser parte del problema, según los expertos.
Al percatarse de esta tendencia hace varias semanas, miembros de la facultad de la escuela superior alertaron a la Administración de Servicios de Salud Mental y Contra la Adicción (ASSMCA) y, desde entonces, la dependencia está orientando a maestros, trabajadores sociales, padres y estudiantes, con relación a cómo manejar este fenómeno.
El hallazgo en Orocovis, aunque “alarmante y de emergencia”, no constituye una experiencia nueva para ASSMCA ya que en el pasado han lidiado con situaciones similares en otros pueblos, como Canóvanas.
El doctor Pedro Juan Morales, administrador auxiliar de tratamiento para niños y adolescentes de ASSMCA, destacó que cada caso tiene que ser visto de forma individual, pues hay diferentes factores que pueden causar una situación como la que ocurre hoy en día en Orocovis.
En Puerto Rico no hay estadísticas sobre intentos de suicidio, pero Morales destacó que los centros de ASSMCA ubicados en Mayagüez y Bayamón, a donde acuden pacientes de casi todo el País, recibieron 2,162 visitas durante el pasado año fiscal. De éstas, 475 fueron casos de intento de suicidio. La estadística por división de edad, sexo y población no ha sido recopilada aún.
Aunque la posibilidad de pensar alguna vez en quitarse la vida está latente en todo ser humano a cualquier edad, según el doctor Morales, la adolescencia suele ser un periodo especialmente vulnerable.
Se entiende que para entonces ha culminado el proceso de desarrollo de pensamiento y se tiene la capacidad de evaluarse a uno mismo. Es entonces cuando comienzan las preguntas: quién soy, cuánto me estoy ajustando a mis metas o a las que trazaron para mí, el ideal de belleza, el cuerpo perfecto, etcétera.
A estas se añade el sentir respecto al entorno familiar y tantas otras. Si el joven no tiene las herramientas y el apoyo para enfrentar conflictos internos o experiencias negativas corre el riesgo de entrar en crisis.
Morales indicó que hay cuatro llamados o expresiones principales que llevan a una persona a tener ideas suicidas e intentar quitarse la vida. Estas son: un reclamo poderoso de atención y de ser escuchado, una respuesta de venganza hacia una persona que le ha hecho daño, una expresión de culpa por entender que se ha fallado o se ha violado una regla, por un sentimiento de frustración personal abrumante o un sensación inmensa de vacío y pérdida de gusto por la vida.
En el caso de Carlos, las tres veces que tomó pastillas en exceso lo hizo bajo los efectos de una profunda tristeza por la falta de atención y cariño de su familia, especialmente de su madre.
El detonante en su caso fue una trágica experiencia en el núcleo de su hogar: su hermana menor fue violada por su tío. La familia “se separó más” y la atención de todo el mundo se volcó en la menor. En medio de la confusión que causó este incidente en Carlos, él decidió no tomar partido con nadie, lo que llevó al rechazo de algunos miembros de su familia y de su madre.
Después de su último intento de suicidio, hace menos de un mes - el pasado 29 de septiembre -, el adolescente fue hospitalizado en una institución de servicios de salud mental. Le recetaron Welbutrin, un antidepresivo. Él lo toma a diario, aunque está convencido de lo que realmente necesita para sanar es la atención de su familia.
No conoce cuáles son los efectos secundarios de la píldora, ni visita a un siquiatra o sicólogo hace más de seis meses. Esa última vez visitó a un siquiatra y no le gustó porque en lugar de aconsejarlo, como él hubiera querido, le recetó pastillas. Por eso quiere visitar a un sicólogo, aunque su mamá prefiere al siquiatra.
“Mami dice que tengo cita, pero nunca me lleva”, cuenta Carlos, cuya familia tampoco está recibiendo ningún apoyo para superar la crisis. Sobre su padre, que no vive con él, el joven sólo dice que “es muy seco”.
Una de las preocupaciones mayores del personal de trabajo social en la escuela es, precisamente, que en muchos casos son los padres de los jóvenes quienes están más necesitados de ayuda y no la reciben.
Una maestra del plantel que en su salón hogar tiene a varios de los estudiantes afectados dijo que uno de ellos es criado por su padre, que es esquizofrénico y no recibe atención médica. Otros dos jóvenes viven con sus madres y enfrentan problemáticas que “muy serias y complejas”, sobre las que no reveló detalles.
“No hay terapia familiar”, lamentó la educadora. “Tú puedes tratar de que el tiempo aquí sea lo más agradable posible, pero después se marchan a su casa a vivir lo mismo. Es muy difícil buscarle alternativas a estos jóvenes porque los servicios son muy pobres”, dijo, a punto del llanto, por la impotencia de no poder hacer más por sus estudiantes.
Un asunto que a juicio de médicos y personal de escuela entrevistado agrava la situación es que debido al aislamiento geográfico de Orocovis la atención médica y preventiva que reciben niños y adolescentes es muy pobre.
La privatizadora FHC, proveedora de servicios de salud mental bajo la reforma de salud en esta región, atiende a los pacientes de esta población con un siquiatra para adultos y un sicólogo.
“No tenemos personal capacitado en niños y adolescentes”, apuntó Arleen Colón, coordinadora del centro.
Mientras, las necesidades de los jóvenes orocoveños y sus familias continúan, no tan sólo en cuanto a atención médica se refiere.
“Las cosas no están fáciles (para los adolescentes). Será prudente regirse por las siguientes reglas de etiqueta para el óptimo funcionamiento de la Isla del Encanto:
1Utilice la inarticulación como el mejor método de comunicación. Ser económico con el lenguaje no es suficiente. Hoy día estamos muy ocupados como para decir: con su permiso, ¿me puede ayudar? Por lo tanto, sea inarticulado para incrementar la calidad de su comunicación interpersonal. Puede hacer un sonido como si se estuviera desinflando (pssst) cuando quiera que lo atiendan en algún lugar. También puede señalar o gritar brevemente para que alguien le preste atención. Comuníquese con su rostro, con sus manos, con su cuerpo, pero no se rebaje a usar el léxico a menos que sea absolutamente necesario. En tal caso, limítese a decir lo que quiere con una sola palabra, sin adjetivos ni verbos. Las oraciones son para personas que malgastan la saliva. Usted no va a ponerse con semejante arrogancia en público.
2. Malcríe a su hijo hoy y él se lo agradecerá mañana. Ya que probablemente no compartirá mucho con su hijo, compense su ausencia con regalos y libertades que usualmente no le otorgaría si pudiera verlo con regularidad. Engórdelo, hágale sus trabajos escolares, cómprele juguetes caros y videojuegos que lo mantengan ocupado y le sirvan de niñera. No permita que vea televisión más de cinco horas al día. Inyéctele sus costumbres religiosas y políticas, aunque sea muy pequeño para entenderlas. Si alguna vez su hijo le pregunta si Dios también existe para los niños de Etiopía que mueren de hambre diariamente, deténgalo con una palmadita en la boca y lávesela con jabón para que nunca vuelva a contradecir o cuestionar sus creencias. Enséñele que él no se tiene que preocupar por lo que pasa en esos lugares habitados por salvajes. También enséñele que él se lo merece todo. No lo hubiera tenido si no fuese así, ¿verdad? Por último, jamás permita que su hijo se independice a menos que se vaya a casar. Y eso sí, tiene que ser con una mujer casta y maternal. Mientras tanto, manténgalo. Manténgalo aunque tenga treinta y cinco años porque la independencia económica, bendito, no le conviene, que la vida está dura.
3. Comprenda que el tamaño de su carro define su prosperidad. La preocupación más grande cuando esté guiando en las carreteras de la isla es usted y solamente usted. Cómprese un carro grande, colosal, el tipo de vehículo que destruiría a un carro deportivo en caso de tener un accidente. Esa es una batalla que usted no debe darse el lujo de perder. Usted necesita un carro aparatoso, impresionante, que no quepa por las calles congestionadas del Viejo San Juan, que sea muy enorme para las carreteras estrechas de las montañas, que inspire temor y admiración en los adolescentes, que demuestre su superioridad automovilística. Hay espacio para eso y para más en esta gran isla. El beneficio principal de un vehículo gigante es que logrará erradicar todas sus deficiencias intelectuales y sociales. Recuerde, la grandeza de su carro se traduce en grandeza personal.
4. Demuestre pasividad cuando esté esperando en fila. Cuando esté en una tienda o en un supermercado, asegúrese de pegársele a la persona que esté al frente suyo. Péguese lo más que pueda. Respírele en su cuello. Si la persona se mueve un poquito, usted debe moverse un poquito también. Si desea algo de las góndolas y hay alguien en el medio, simplemente ignore su presencia, busque lo que quiera y si se produce contacto físico, no diga nada. Mientras esté esperando, no se queje si la fila es larga o si ve que sólo hay una caja abierta y hay dos empleados ajenos a la situación, hablando por teléfono celular, ojeando revistas o tasando nalgaje indiscriminadamente. Si necesita quejarse, hágalo en voz baja, o quéjese con otro cliente, no con la gerencia. Siga esperando hasta que le toque su turno. Sin embargo, si por casualidad abren una caja, ignore las palabras del cajero (“Próximo en la fila”) y corra para que llegue primero.
5. Niegue lo evidente si resulta conveniente. Repita los siguientes pensamientos diariamente y todo seguirá igual, con el favor de Dios: Puerto Rico no está sobrepoblado. La salud mental de nuestros ciudadanos es óptima. La violencia doméstica ha disminuido considerablemente. Usted está más seguro en su urbanización de acceso controlado. Su cuerpo le agradece el refresco de dieta que se toma cuando se come un combo agrandado de un fast food. Los jóvenes se desbordan de respeto por los líderes de la patria. La televisión local progresa cada día. La tecnología nos ha brindado una insuperable calidad de vida. Repítalo. Repítalo. Repítalo.
6. No permita que el talento se interponga en su camino. No se destaque. Deje de lucir bien ante tanta gente. ¿Acaso no sabe que es de muy mal gusto hacer las cosas bien? Su obra cuidadosa ofende a las multitudes ingresadas al club de la mediocridad. Si quiere ser aceptado y amado por las masas, renuncie a su talento y únase al club. La membresía es gratis. Sólo tiene que cumplir con la mitad de sus labores. No gane premios. No se preocupe por sobresalir en asuntos laborales, académicos o artísticos. El éxito es una falta de respeto para todos. Causa envidia. No vale la pena. La gente se identificará con usted si sabe lograr ese equilibrio entre la deficiencia y la excelencia. Si por casualidad ve algo bien hecho, destrúyalo, elimínelo de su vida. Si ve que alguien está tratando de alterar el orden de su hábitat, busque la manera de expulsarlo del reino. Difámelo, insúltelo, rebájelo, fabríquele un caso, haga algo. No se quede de brazos cruzados. Embalsámese de ineficiencia, porque ya nadie aprecia lo prodigioso.
7. Ódiese a sí mismo. El censo más reciente revela que la mayoría de los puertorriqueños pertenece a la raza blanca. Por lo tanto, la negrura en Puerto Rico es un mito. Es cierto. Vaya a cualquier estado en el centro de los Estados Unidos y disfrute de su blancura con los suyos. Lo aceptarán de inmediato y le dirán, “Hey, I didn’t know Puerto Ricans were so white”. Alísese el cabello, pínteselo de rubio, no pase mucho tiempo bajo el sol, convénzase de que el inglés es un idioma superior. Odie sus raíces. Niegue su identidad, a menos que se convierta en algo aceptado por los norteamericanos. Intente camuflar todo gesto incriminatoriamente boricua. Trate a los turistas mejor que a los residentes permanentes de la isla. Si usted trabaja en un hotel, por ejemplo, siempre dele preferencia al extranjero; los puertorriqueños sabrán perdonarle.

Anoche el crack estuvo bueno porque son~e que el staff de FA estabamos en alguna jungla buscando ruinas. De repente nos encontramos con unos beetles (no se el nombre de estos insectos en castizo) que se comian a la gente viva (si si si a lo The Mummy) y de repente estamos huyendo de ellos.
No me acuerdo del otro suen~o, pero puej ya por lo menos le di la plata a la vieja, compre el regalito de mi novia. Falta pagar el telefono y la laptop y estamos.
De cualquier manera, Jueves a ver si puedo ir a Brenda's, viernes el guiso y el Sabado Megadeth con Lightshadow. W00t!

Throughout much of the world today, mass media is prevalent to such a degree that it has become a cultural influence as deep as our languages and ethnic histories. The multifarious mediums through which human beings extend their inner being, their very sense of personal identity, are a teeming tangle of noise in the airwaves along which this "Age of Information" extends its influence into our homes, our minds, and our lives. Since the dawn of the human ability to create media as a means to communicate or simply to visualize the poignant tide of human thought, we have suffered the criticism of our fellow inhabitants within our communities. While endeavoring to bequeath our exclusive equities unto the world, we are often chagrined by remonstrations designed to terminate what many believe to be our God-given right to pursue. Parallel to the advent of society, there have been laws and law makers, empowered by militant services and the citizenry of which they are comprised, created and enforced to impose the will of the commonality. Parallel to that have been those who questioned whether or not those in power are in fact speaking for the commonalty and to what ends.
AND SO IT BEGINS
Allow me to present Michigan SB-0416, the latest attempt by the American government to protect the well being of its citizens from the cultural influence spawned from the very citizens which it seeks to protect. By the statute of ethical journalism, it should be duly stated that SB-0416 has been enacted to identify, protect against and subsequently prosecute those found in violation of committing willful acts of "dissemination of certain ultra-violent explicit matter to minors" [1]. While it is difficult for many to reasonably argue that the children of this country should be excluded from partaking in adult material, the State of Michigan, or more specifically, Senator Alan Cropsey, has found it necessary to deem these violations liable to civil and criminal penalties. The question is then raised as to why the video game industry has been singled out by both the States of Michigan and Illinois, to the point of spending the taxpayers money to combat an issue which is argued against by experts from both sides of the coin. California may soon become the third state to follow suit, though perhaps the inertia of such a decision is strengthened by Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger and his close ties to the entertainment industry, particularly that of his body of work within the film industry.
The aspects of the Michigan law that are most demonstrative of the commutative nature of the American people are those that hold certain individuals liable under civil and criminal penalties. The question raised among analysts, lawyers, and journalists alike is why the movie theatres of America are not held to the same standards. A statement on the issue by Douglas Lowenstein, President of the Entertainment Software Association, brings to light the very heart of the issue:
"It is illogical that video games would be treated more harshly than R-rated movies or music CDs with parental warning labels, both of which can be legally viewed and sold to minors. How can you treat a video game based on James Bond any different than a book or movie based on the same subject matter?"
The ESA, operating with the full support of the gaming industry, will soon file suit against Michigan Governor Jennifer M. Granholm, on the basis that "similar laws were previously found unconstitutional and thrown out in St. Louis, Indianapolis, and Washington State, costing taxpayers hundreds of thousands of dollars in legal fees"[2]. Though we can only speculate that the decision to sue Michigan and not Illinois rests on the enactment of civil and criminal penalties, we cannot say for certain that a follow up lawsuit will not follow in the event of the law being overturned. The Governor's and Senator's Office could not be reached for questioning by their own constituents here at GamerGod.
The Motion Picture Association of America instituted the ratings system on November 1, 1968, in order to address the U.S. Supreme Court ruling in April of 1968, which upheld "the constitutional power of the states and cities to prevent the exposure of children to books and films that could not be denied to adults." The effective result was that movie theatres across American did indeed put these ratings to use by disallowing minors access to films that were off limits to children. The main contradiction today is that movie theatres, their owners, and their employees are not held liable, dictating fines must be paid for violations, as no such laws exist.
Let us pause at the MPAA ratings for a moment, and fast forward to 1994 and the induction of the Interactive Digital Software Association, now known as the Entertainment Software Ratings Board, or ERSB, into the halls of parental guidance history. The goal of the ERSB is to enforce ratings, advertising guidelines, and online privacy principles adopted by the computer and video game industry, primarily by assigning ratings to video games much like those the MPAA applies to the film industry. Much like the MPAA ratings, the ERSB ratings were put into place to arm the parents with the tools they would need to protect their children from inadvertently partaking in games that should rightly be marketed and sold to adults. Until the Illinois law went into effect, the public appeared to manage rearing their children just fine on their own. Law makers such as Senator Alan Cropsey, given the amount of thought, time, and taxpayer money that has gone into enacting laws that allow for punitive repercussions, have gone to great lengths to insinuate that parents have indeed failed their children by allowing them to do as little as glimpse at the packaging in which violent video games are sold. Is it that those parents are not doing their part, or that the ERSB has failed to properly warn parents about products which are appropriate for their children? Douglas Lowenstein provides some insight into this when he issued the following statement:
"We reject any suggestion that parents cannot trust ESRB ratings. In fact, a scientific national survey by the highly regarded Peter D. Hart Research shows parents themselves agree with the ESRB ratings 83% of the time. Further, even the National Institute on Media and the Family (NIMF) usually agrees with the ESRB. In fact, for the 10 games recently highlighted and rated on its web site, the NIMF ratings almost always agree with the ESRB rating. In a pluralistic society, any rating system which gets it right 83% of the time is doing a pretty good job."
It is one thing for any journalist to dig through the mountains of facts, papers, statements, laws, publications, laws, and red tape in order to determine which side has the greener grass, who is right and who is wrong. The real meat of the story lies within the real life stories of the parents and their children, in both this day and age and before the laws of Michigan and Illinois. In this particular debate, I found it imperative to seek out real life, everyday people in order to give credence to the claim within another of Douglas Lowenstein and the ESA's statements:
"We also disagree with those who suggest that violent video games are harmful. The most objective science in the world from the U.S. Surgeon General, the State of Washington Health Department, and the Government of Australia, among many others, has not found that games cause actual aggression or real-life violence."
PEOPLE LIKE YOU AND ME?
While researching the intricacies of behavioral modification theory through excessive exposure to violent video games for the Grand Theft America - When Parents Stop Parenting article, I came across a wealth of information which provided insight to the possibility that children could be effected in a number of ways. One theory states that that cognitive perception of the morality of "right" and "wrong" could be distorted in the very core of our brains during adolescent and pre-adolescent development. Another theory stated that repetitive acts of simulated violent behavior could not be determined to be the primary motivator for a violent adulthood. There is little evidence to suggest viewing blindfolded bondage scenes, drug users weighing drugs on scales, scantily clad warrior women wielding swords, drive by shootings, hangings, electrocutions, and exploitation of the female gender have been found to be influential in rise of crime statistics.
I spoke to the youngest of two brothers raised in a household headed by parents who worked full time throughout the week and saw very little of their children on the weekends. On any given weekday or weekend, the lack of socialization with their parents could have been the result of them "running wild in the streets," as he so fondly recalled, or his own self-imposed solitary confinement within his room, delving deep into another world which existed in either books or video games. He read heavy science fiction as a child and moved into Stephen King's Pet Sematary at age nine, given to him by his mother. He played Dungeons and Dragons from age ten and his preference of video games was anything with a plethora of swords, destruction, explosions, violence, and destruction. The games and literature were either provided by the parents or known to them from their children having been exposed to them outside of the home and telling the parents at the dinner table. He told me his brother, for the most part, spent a great deal of time in nature, playing with friends, climbing trees, and catching lizards. The older brother's devotion to video games fell unto those of good old fashioned American sports condoned by millions of parents; football and boxing.
Though he could not tell me at which point it became apparent, there became a noticeable difference in the two as the years went by. The older brother became increasing violent and prone to criminal acts of destruction, theft and violence, dropped out of middle school, eventually serving several years in a state penitentiary for his crimes. The younger brother joined the military and went on to become a Chef, creating artful delights and serving people in order to see the smile on their faces. Both brothers are in their thirties now and while each still enjoys video games, the older brother has developed severe social anxieties, leaving his house only to work; the youngest is an avid MMORPG player and active in his community.
After hearing this story, I simply noted the proof that two different people growing up in the same household with two different preferences for after school and weekend activities can produce two entirely different outcomes in their lives. This, however, was simply not enough.
I endeavored to dig deeper, to see how the other side lived, to find a different perspective, one that had the potential to be affected by the laws taking root in our land. In order to do that, I spoke to a couple from Michigan with flair for individuality expressed though what some consider an "alternative" lifestyle: working mostly at home and home schooling their three children, ages 3-8. The father works within the gaming industry, the mother in education. By all accounts from speaking with the mother and father separately, their children are nothing short of exemplary. They are well spoken and well behaved, and yet, low and behold, are exposed to video games on nearly a daily basis, even violent video games such as Halo. The eight year old is allowed to play the video game with the father present, all the while being taught the difference between right and wrong, and always within limited play times. They are not exposed to sexually graphic games such as Grand Theft Auto's Hot Coffee mod. They enjoy an active social life with other children their age through sports, music, and dance lessons. These children seem destined to be model citizens, though this is no indication they will not become dangerous elements of society in their later years. Odds are stacked in their favor though as these parents are doing the one thing that all parents can do to avoid allowing the influence of the everyday world to scar the minds of their children: stay involved.
CAN THERE BE EXPLANATION WITHOUT REPRESENTATION?
Aside from reviewing the lives of real people who somehow managed their way through life before these laws, the primary issues that we as citizens should examine and question are those defined within the laws themselves. The following questions need to be answered before any of us can truly understand why our money was spent to further the crusade of select religiously motivated fat cats who deign to impose their concept of parental guidance and care upon us: Why are we holding the owners and employers of video game retailers under different laws than those that govern the movie industry? If the studies which the legislation used are based on video games, why are all devices which can be classified as "computers" held liable? Are we to charge every single retail outlet owner and employee in America with the duty of scouring for pornography and violent material in order to avoid paying increasingly excessive fines? Given that the average person who is likely to be selling one of these "obscene" games makes ten cents above the federal minimum wage, how are they to even pay the fine? Since the law really only prosecutes those who absolutely knowingly push the material to kids they have with full knowledge and verification that they are under age, who does this law actually pertain to? Does the existence of a few individuals among hundreds of millions warrant the need for us to spend money and time debating? Did the politicians who have either signed these laws or considering them forget about comic books, bugs bunny, cops and robbers, cowboys and Indians (which actually happened by those who built this nation by carving a bloody trail through history)? Have we made absolute certain books and movies are not degrading the minds of our children and video games and all computerized representation of violent and sexual acts are the cause of an increase of depraved sociopaths? Are we to head down to every single corner drug store, mall shop, retail outlet, Wal-Mart, Best Buy, and gas station in a mad witch hunt for deviant employees seeking to peddle their way into infamy using digital crack? Why didn't the politicians respond to our questions before they spent our money and put into effect a punitive law that clearly states they have decided that we are not able to protect our own children to the point of hunting down retail clerks for restitution? Where will the money go if any is ever indeed collected?
WE HOLD THESE TRUTHS TO BE SELF-EVIDENT
The letters of the laws simply fail to define in no uncertain circumstances why they are being enacted, given that parents have the full right to give these games to their children if they so choose to do so. If that wasn't strange enough, it is perfectly legal for their seventeen year old siblings, who are by definition of the law in every single state in the U.S., minors themselves, to give the game to siblings with no penalty. The laws do not provide for the ability to apply forensic culpability to any single, supposed offender of a law that, when examined closely, serves to do little more than create resume filler for the politicians. Since the inception of the laws that govern the United States, we have to enact a law that can protect our children from the outside world if we fail to take an active part in thier development, their daily activities, and quite simply, thier lives. Frankly, I haven't found many citizens of this country who believe it takes a half naked, scale toting, blind folded, sword wielding matriarch of judgment empowered with the right to capital punishment to tell us that now.

Since the law really only prosecutes those who absolutely knowingly push the material to kids they have with full knowledge and verification that they are under age, who does this law actually pertain to? Does the existence of a few individuals among hundreds of millions warrant the need for us to spend money and time debating? Did the politicians who have either signed these laws or considering them forget about comic books, bugs bunny, cops and robbers, cowboys and Indians (which actually happened by those who built this nation by carving a bloody trail through history)? Have we made absolute certain books and movies are not degrading the minds of our children and video games and all computerized representation of violent and sexual acts are the cause of an increase of depraved sociopaths? Are we to head down to every single corner drug store, mall shop, retail outlet, Wal-Mart, Best Buy, and gas station in a mad witch hunt for deviant employees seeking to peddle their way into infamy using digital crack? Why didn't the politicians respond to our questions before they spent our money and put into effect a punitive law that clearly states they have decided that we are not able to protect our own children to the point of hunting down retail clerks for restitution? Where will the money go if any is ever indeed collected?
WE HOLD THESE TRUTHS TO BE SELF-EVIDENT
The letters of the laws simply fail to define in no uncertain circumstances why they are being enacted, given that parents have the full right to give these games to their children if they so choose to do so. If that wasn't strange enough, it is perfectly legal for their seventeen year old siblings, who are by definition of the law in every single state in the U.S., minors themselves, to give the game to siblings with no penalty. The laws do not provide for the ability to apply forensic culpability to any single, supposed offender of a law that, when examined closely, serves to do little more than create resume filler for the politicians. Since the inception of the laws that govern the United States, we have to enact a law that can protect our children from the outside world if we fail to take an active part in thier development, their daily activities, and quite simply, thier lives. Frankly, I haven't found many citizens of this country who believe it takes a half naked, scale toting, blind folded, sword wielding matriarch of judgment empowered with the right to capital punishment to tell us that now.

a history of violence
David Cronenberg tiene un excelente talento, ademas de ser un buen director. El escoge peliculas que tienen la capacidad de meterse en tu cerebro y quedarse alli jodiendo de diferentes maneras. A History of Violence no es la excepcion.
Basada en una novela grafica de John Wagner la cual quiero comprar ayer, la pelicula presenta a esta familia que vive una existencia normal en un pueblito idilico. Pero las circunstancias que le ocurren a ellos luego de un incidente el cual protagoniza el padre de la familia dejara unos resultados interesantes.
Cronenberg no empieza con la familia, sino empieza con los elementos que causaran todo el revuelo. De manera lenta y tranquila. Como un domingo de verano. Y ahi es que la cosas se pone buena.
Cronenberg tambien tiene un buen talento para escoger a sus actores y sacarle tremendas actuaciones. Viggo Mortensen, Maria Bello, William Hurt, Ed Harris y el joven actor que hace el papel del hijo de la familia cuyo nombre se me escapa, trabajan esta cinta muy bien.
Como todo buen trabajo mental de Cronenberg, la cinta te gustara o te sacara de tus casillas. Para mi, hizo lo primero y de buena manera.
Lo mejor de todo fue escuchar a Vero reirse en varias escenas. Si, tenemos un sentido del humor bien enfermizo.
