So it seems by the early results from yesterday's election in Spain that Spain's fascist Partido Popular is out. Their refusal to heed the people's plead not to be involved in the war against Iraq back then (ninety percent of the Spanish opposed joining the US effort), their insistence to blame ETA for the March 11th bombing even when Al Qaeda claimed responsibility and their poor handling of the crisis afterwards, fucked them in the polls royally. They lost the election but it seems that the winning PSOE (Partido Socialista Obrero Espan~ol, the Spanish Socialist Worker's Party) will need to get into a coalition government. The Spanish troops are supposedly ready to leave Iraq by the 30th when the US supposedly hands over control of Iraq to the Iraquis. I don't think they will hand over control with recent developments though.

Still it was a lesson in democracy as the Spanish people refused to follow the Partido Popular's agenda on fear and influence. I hope this change will bring about something positive to Spain and it's people. They deserve something good after all this time.
